Growing up, she spent much of her time either at her Grandparents horse farm or immersed in the Transcendental Meditation movement learning about natural living and the importance of experiencing deep connection with Nature and Self. Living in the T.M. movement’s North American hub as a teen in Fairfield, Iowa gave her ample exposure to many other wisdom traditions and shamanic practices that offered confirmations and glimpses of a world beyond. After years of working in the service industry, she moved to Asheville, NC to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Wellness Promotion at UNC-Asheville. It was during this time that she began to experience quite acutely her own mortality and consider what it was to live well and to die well. While an intern in a private Wellness Center in the area she offered esthetician skin care therapies and built relationships with Older Adults, discovering that beauty and aging is truly more than skin deep. Also during this time she became an active member of the Western North Carolina Fall Prevention Coalition and became it’s chair from 2013-2017. Upon completing her degree she worked with elders as a Program Coordinator at a Continuing Care Retirement Community, building relationships with elders and learning what is truly important to those who are in the last phase of life on this earth. After this she was a Program Manager at the North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness helping to found a statewide initiative called Healthy Aging NC that sought to make healthy aging programs accessible to elders all over the state. Departing this role in 2017 she returned to her Grandparents farm to care for her elderly Grandmother during her last three years of life with dementia;providing support and fall prevention strategy, and as her bedside attendant during her dying process in April 2020.
